Food has always been an essential part in people’s daily life. Since the earliest ages, people started to try to turn‘food’ into ‘fine food’. In our modern society, nearly everything that look normal, that sound completely different things, are being made artistic, and Art, is being made more natural, which becomes more closely related, compatible and popular, to a definition existing in our daily life.
This, is a challenge to the term, ‘Art’, orperhaps, a shift in the way human beings view ‘Art’.
As the forms of expression in Art continuously increasing, Art mediums keep on renewing, the definition of Art remains a question ( maybe it will never be defined ). Personally, ‘Fine Food’ is different-the nature of which includes the basic theories to the ‘rules in Art’-such as the modern development of Food, the rising of ‘fusion’ and‘molecular gastronomy’, the rejection and acceptance of critics, this is nodifference to modern Art.
My thought for this exhibition, is to use‘food’ as an Art medium, in an approachable, universal and the attraction of Food itself, to present the cognit relation between Food and Art, to make Food into a behavior, is also a query to the development, trend and ways of expression of Art, and to ask ourselves, what is the actual meaning of Art inthis world?
I love to create, love painting and drawing, love philosophy, love to eat.It is true that I am only 16 (nearly 17), I am still an ‘international’ student, studying in the UK. My school locate in Surrey, called Epsom College. If you ask me to describe this place, then probably I’d say it’s no more than the rubbish station when my mom drop me off in the morning, but at the end of the day when I’m heading back to home, actually it is a nice place-trees surrounding our lovely Main Hall. The definitions of ‘Fine Food’ and ‘Art’ similarly cannot be given an universally accepted one, and I felt so do the meanings of them, which are multiple, obscure and perhaps mixed in ‘goodness’ and ‘badness’, but this is also a reason why we can always investigate, develop, accept and reject in the two areas. What ‘Fine Food’ brought to me, is not only ‘it is so good, really, so I’m happy’… it makes me find my interest in philosophy, not afraid to be critical, and fall in love with this world.I do really love to eat. The best thing to do is to stay in a place on my own (with a kitchen), paint my dream, cook some food (Fine Food), and to think about the ‘ultimate’ question about the universe. To me personally, ‘Fine Food’, ‘Fine Art’, Philosophy, Science, they are a whole-they are the most precious treasure to humanity-I wish they can always be there with me for the rest of my life, and our world, will be made by them better place.
